Medication Refill Policy
Medication Refill Policy
Protocol for Prescription
Patients are expected to take responsibility for knowing when their medications need refilling.
This responsibility includes identifying which medication(s) require refills.
To initiate a medication refill, patients are required to take action.
Patients should contact the pharmacy to request a refill.
The pharmacy can be reached by fax at 214-256-3770.
Medication refills are subject to specific guidelines set by the Dallas Orthopedic & Shoulder Institute.
Refills are only available during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm.
Medication refills will not be provided on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.
Patients should plan their refill requests accordingly to align with the institute's business hours.
Refill requests require a minimum of 24 business hours to be processed by the pharmacy.
Patients should allow for this processing time when requesting refills to ensure timely receipt of their medications.
The policy strictly prohibits the authorization of early refills.
Patients must adhere to the prescribed refill schedule and not request medication refills ahead of their scheduled refill dates.
Medications or prescriptions will not be replaced if they are lost or misplaced by the patient.
Patients are responsible for keeping track of their medications and prescriptions to avoid loss.
If a patient's physician is not in the office or is unavailable, medication refills cannot be authorized during their absence.
Patients must wait until their physician returns or becomes available to obtain authorization for medication refills.
Non-narcotic prescriptions necessitate follow-up appointments every 3-6 months.
Patients with non-narcotic prescriptions should adhere to this follow-up schedule to receive refills.
Narcotic prescriptions mandate a more frequent follow-up appointment schedule, with a requirement for follow-up every 30 days.
Patients with narcotic prescriptions must have a follow-up appointment every month to receive refills.
Prescription refills will not be provided on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.
Patients should plan their refill requests accordingly to align with the clinic's business hours and these restrictions.
As of Jan. 2021, ALL prescription refills will be sent electronically (including pain medications) Please do not come into the office to request a refill.
The providers of Dallas Orthopedic & Shoulder Institute do not routinely prescribe narcotics on a long-term basis, nor do we administer narcotics by injection.
